2nd Congress of Polish International Studies Association call for papers

The goals and objectives of the congress

The objectives of the Polish International Studies Association Congress are related to the topic of Global International Relations (Global IR). The debate on this issue is becoming an important part of international relations, and the Congress is an opportunity to discuss the origins, as well as the contemporary dimension, development and criticism of the Global IR concept. International relations theories and ideas remain strongly influenced by the Western approach. As a result, they tend to overlook experiences and relations in other parts of the world or are not very-well suited to understanding and explaining their specificities. The main aim of Global IR is to 'bring the rest' into the world of international relations, i.e. the non-Western world or the Global South. Global IR aims to transform the discipline towards understanding and explaining the relationships between states and societies in all parts of the world: East, West, North and South. The global perspective of IR theory does not seek to replace existing theories, but challenges them to broaden their horizons and recognise the place and importance of the non-Western world. Understanding the perspective of the non-Western world is important because of contemporary international order transformation, and powers like China, India, Brasil, Indonesia are playing an increasingly important role in global politics. At the same time, Western countries are facing increasing economic, demographic and security pressures from non-Western powers and the Global South. The Congress is a platform to discuss about the concept of Global IR as well as the place of the non-Western world in global politics.
